Anti theft backpack in India: which feature changes the risk

By PickWise India EditorialLast reviewed November 20265 min read4 products compared

Short answer

The label covers an alarm slider, hidden zippers, lockable zippers or a name with no stated feature. A Gulf News guide ranks rear opening or hidden zips highest, and Air India's 90 cm combined limit can turn a large bag into the cabin bag.

Picks at a glance
  1. Arctic Fox Alarm Anti-Theft Glitch Black Laptop Bag and BackpackA traveller who wants an audible tamper alert and a large 36 L bag for a laptop and a few days of clothes.
  2. Road Gods Zarc X 22L Anti-Theft Laptop BackpackA traveller who specifically wants hidden zippers rather than an alarm or lock.
  3. Knack Bags Series 2 Medium Expandable Knack PackA traveller who wants one bag that grows from a day pack to a 35 L carry-on style pack and uses lockable zippers.
  4. F Gear Racer 20L Black Anti theft Laptop BackpackA commuter-traveller who wants a slim 20 L bag with a USB charging port and a long laptop sleeve.

An anti theft backpack is best chosen by mechanism, since the four bags here use the label for an alarm slider, hidden zippers, lockable zippers and a name with no stated feature. Each of those changes how easy the bag is to open in a different way.

The reader in mind is a first time solo traveller who carries a laptop and a passport through crowded stations and airports. A Gulf News product guide says no backpack makes belongings impossible to steal, and that the aim is to remove easy opportunities and make tampering more noticeable.

Pick the mechanism first

The Gulf News guide is an editorial page that carries affiliate commission links, so it is a view and not independent testing. It still sets out an order of features, and the order is a reasonable starting point for comparing the four bags.

None of the four product pages cites a test or a standard for its anti theft claim. Each brand uses the label in its own way, so the named mechanism says more than the product name does.

Moving the main zipper against the wearer’s back makes the main compartment harder to reach, the guide says, and it presents that rear opening as the biggest practical improvement. The guide places hidden zips in the same group. Of the four bags, only the Road Gods names hidden zippers, and the page does not say where the main opening sits.

Locking zipper pulls come next in the guide. They mainly deter casual interference rather than determined theft, in its words.

Slash resistant panels come last, and the guide says they add protection mainly for expensive electronics. It adds that features complement sensible habits and do not replace them.

On that ordering, the four bags fall into different groups. Road Gods names hidden zippers, Arctic Fox names an alarm, Knack names lockable zippers and cut resistant mesh on its collection page, and F Gear names nothing beyond the label.

What each page claims

Arctic Fox sells the Alarm Anti Theft Glitch, the only bag of the four with an audible alert. Its page describes an alarm slider on the main zipper that activates instantly when anyone attempts to tamper with the zippers.

It holds 36 L and takes a laptop of up to 15.5 inch. The listed size is 47 x 34 x 23 cm, the weight 905 g and the warranty one year. The body fabrics are 400D twill polyester with a PU coating, 500D PU coated polyester and 600D PU leather, with #8 SBS zippers.

The page does not say how the alarm is powered or switched on.

Road Gods lists the Zarc X 22L for a traveller who wants hidden zippers specifically. Its page, on the KIBI Sports shop that sells the brand, says it has hidden zippers and a secure structure, and it fits laptops of up to 15.6 inch.

No dimensions, weight, material or warranty are stated, and the only after sale term is 7 day returns. Two 25 L hard shell Ghost X models from the same brand also say anti theft and name no particular feature.

Knack Bags places its Series 2 Medium Expandable Pack in an anti theft collection. The collection page lists shared features, not confirmed for each product: RFID blocking pockets, a hidden pocket in the trolley sleeve, stainless steel wire mesh in critical areas for cut resistance, and reinforced straps. It says Series 2 has lockable main, suitcase compartment and front compartment zippers.

The product page itself lists none of those anti theft features. It gives 24 L expanding to 35 L, a fit for a 16 inch laptop, 420 denier high density nylon described as water resistant, a hidden zip away side bottle pocket and a zip tuck away back pocket.

It also lists a 30 day trial with free returns, which is not a warranty, and gives no weight, dimensions or warranty.

The F Gear Racer 20L carries the label in its name without an explanation. The page lists a padded sleeve for a laptop of up to 17 inch, three mesh pockets, a smart organizer, a bottle holder and a USB Type A port, and describes the polyester as water and dust resistant.

Its listed size is 35 x 12 x 52 cm, the weight 960 g, and the warranty one year carry in. Since the page explains no anti theft design, no mechanism is stated for it here.

The airline rule that can decide

Air India allows a personal item in addition to the cabin bag, as long as it fits under the seat and weighs up to 3 kg. Its page sets a size of 40 x 30 x 20 cm for camera, laptop and waist bags, and says an item whose combined dimensions exceed 90 cm counts toward the standard cabin allowance.

For the Economy cabin bag, the same airline sets a limit of 7 kg, with a size of 55 cm high, 40 cm long and 20 cm wide and a total of no more than 115 cm. A personal item is therefore a separate allowance from that bag, and a larger backpack that counts toward the cabin allowance shares it.

Against those figures, the Arctic Fox adds up to 104 cm and the F Gear Racer to 99 cm, by our arithmetic from the brand sizes. Both are over the 90 cm mark, so either could use the cabin bag slot and not travel as a personal item. A traveller who also carries a cabin trolley would need the backpack to meet the personal item limits to keep both items.

Sizes are not stated for the Road Gods and Knack pages, so the same sum cannot be made for them. The F Gear is the slimmer of the two measured bags, at 12 cm in thickness, yet its length of 52 cm carries it over the line.

Which mechanism suits which traveller

Arctic Fox suits a traveller who wants an audible tamper alert and a 36 L bag for a laptop and a few days of clothes. The Road Gods suits one who wants hidden zippers rather than an alarm or a lock.

Knack suits one who wants a single bag that grows from a day pack to a larger carry on style pack and relies on lockable zippers, though that claim sits on the collection page. F Gear suits a commuter who wants a slim 20 L bag with a USB port and a long laptop sleeve.

The Road Gods page says new orders are paused, so buying it was not possible in November 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Do anti theft backpacks really stop theft?

No bag makes belongings impossible to steal, according to a Gulf News product guide. It describes the aim as removing easy opportunities and making tampering more noticeable.

What is the most useful anti theft feature?

Gulf News names a main zipper moved against the wearer's back, or hidden zippers, as the biggest practical improvement. It is an editorial page with affiliate links and not a test.

Are locking zippers enough?

Locking pulls mainly deter casual interference rather than determined theft, in the words of that guide, which adds that they work best alongside sensible habits.

Can an anti theft backpack be a personal item on Air India?

Only when it fits under the seat and stays within the airline's weight and size rules for a laptop bag. A larger bag counts as the cabin bag instead.

Does an alarm backpack need to be armed or charged?

The Arctic Fox page does not say how its alarm is powered or switched on, so no claim is made about it here.
