Five body trimmers from Philips, Havells and Panasonic are compared here for a man who wants to trim chest, underarm, groin or back hair for the first time and is nervous about nicks. This guide covers body grooming only, and beard trimming is left to separate guides.
Two points decide most of the choice. One is the skin protection design that each page describes for sensitive areas, and the other is the reach and the set of combs that come with the tool. Water rating and battery type matter as well, though they come second and are set out in the table.
Every detail below is taken from the brand pages, and none comes from using the tools.
Is a body trimmer safe on sensitive areas?
A body groomer label says little about how a tool treats skin, so the pages are read for the specific design each brand names. Four different approaches appear among the five models.
Philips describes a contour following 2D shaver with a hypoallergenic foil on the BG5021 and the BG3007. The BG5021 page adds rounded tips on the foil, and all of these are statements by the brand.
On the BG5555, Havells fits a 0.5 mm comb with a skin guard system. Its BG3300 instead uses a ceramic blade, together with an LED torch and an adjustable speed mode.
Panasonic offers trimming at the same 0.5 mm without a comb on the ER-GY10. The brand describes a safeguard coating as suitable for sensitive areas such as the underarms and the bikini line.
These protection claims belong to the brands that made them, and no dermatology guidance is cited in this guide.
Reach and attachments
Only the Philips BG5021 page lists an attachment for reaching the back. It also lists click on combs of 2, 3, 5 and 7 mm, the widest set of cutting lengths among the five.
The BG5021 page is not consistent about those combs. The text refers to five click on combs while naming four lengths, and the meta description of the page mentions only three of them.
A single 3 mm click on comb and a bidirectional trimmer come with the Philips BG3007. Havells lists two combs for the BG3300, one covering 2 to 4 mm and the other 5 to 7 mm.
Havells includes with the BG5555 a bidirectional body comb in 1 mm and 3 mm, plus the skin guard comb. For the Panasonic ER-GY10, the page names four attachments including ones for the armpit and the groin, but lists no comb lengths.
Reaching the back is the first question. Only one page answers it with a tool, and the other models can still be used on chest and groin hair with the attachments they list.
Can a body trimmer be used in the shower?
Two Philips models are described as showerproof. Havells is more specific, and its codes follow the IP standard, under which IPX4 covers splashes and IPX7 covers temporary immersion.
The Havells BG3300 states IPX7 and is described as fully washable. A washable body at IPX4 is what the BG5555 states, so it is protected against splashes and not against immersion.
Power sources differ widely. The BG3300 charges through a Type C port, while the BG5555 runs on a single 1.5 V AA alkaline battery and its page lists neither a run time nor a charging method.
The Panasonic ER-GY10 is a lithium ion cordless kit used wet or dry. Philips gives cordless run times for its two models, which appear in the model sections.
Reading the brand terms
Several phrases on these pages are brand terms and not measurements. Hypoallergenic foil, rounded tips, safeguard coating, skin guard system and ceramic blade each describe a design choice, and each is repeated here in the brand’s own wording.
The same applies to showerproof, which is the descriptive word Philips uses. A buyer comparing it with the IPX7 on the Havells BG3300 is comparing a brand description with a rated standard.
Charging time and warranty side by side
Charge times vary more than run times do. Philips lists about an hour for the BG5021, Havells lists an hour and a half for the BG3300, and Panasonic lists about eight hours for the ER-GY10. The BG3007 page gives no charging time, and the BG5555 uses a battery instead.
Warranty terms also differ. Philips offers the longest period on the BG5021, while the BG3007 and the BG3300 carry two years each and Panasonic states the same period for the ER-GY10.
The Havells pages also show optional extended warranty plans. Their description text is placeholder wording, so their coverage is not described here.
Philips BG5021 and BG3007
The BG5021 is the Bodygroom Series 5000 showerproof groin and body trimmer (BG5021/15). Philips lists 61 minutes of cordless use per charge, plus the back reach attachment and the combs described above.
Its warranty is up to 5 years, made up of a standard 2 years and 3 additional years when the product is registered within 90 days of purchase. The page gives no cleaning steps.
Philips sells the BG3007 as the Bodygroom Series 3000 (BG3007/01), with up to 40 minutes of cordless use. The page lists no technical specifications.
Both Philips pages call the product a groin and body trimmer, with the BG5021 in Series 5000 and the BG3007 in Series 3000. The BG5021 suits a man who wants body, groin and back grooming from one tool and values the long warranty. The BG3007 suits a first time user who wants a simple tool with few attachments.
Havells BG3300 and BG5555
For the BG3300, Havells states a run time of 60 minutes after a 90 minute charge. The page gives no written cleaning steps.
This model suits a buyer who wants a rechargeable, fully washable groomer with an LED light for areas that are hard to see.
A skin guard comb on a battery powered groomer is what the BG5555 offers. Its limits are the missing run time and the fact that IPX4 gives splash protection only.
Panasonic ER-GY10
Sold as a 6 in 1 men body rechargeable grooming kit, the ER-GY10-K44B has beard styling alongside the body attachments.
Run times conflict on the page. The specification table says 45 minutes, while the features and the FAQ say up to 50 minutes, so neither figure is stated as fact here.
Returns wording on the Panasonic store page also conflicts. One passage says items damaged on arrival are replaced, while a disclaimer further down the page rules out any refund or replacement.
No blade material is listed. The kit suits a buyer who wants one cordless set for body, armpit and groin plus beard styling.
Matching a model to a situation
A man who wants the groomer to reach his own back has one page that lists a tool for it, the Philips BG5021. A man who would rather avoid charging will look at the Havells BG5555, which runs on a single AA battery.
Use in the shower is described in different words on different pages. Philips says showerproof for two models, Havells gives IPX7 for the BG3300, and Panasonic says wet and dry use for the ER-GY10.
Extra light for hard to see areas is listed on the BG3300 only, as an LED torch. A skin guard comb is found on the BG5555, and trimming without any comb at the finest length is offered by the Panasonic kit.
A longer warranty period matters to some buyers, and the Philips BG5021 is the model that states one. The BG3300 and the ER-GY10 pages state two years each.
Run time matters for longer sessions on the back and chest. The BG5021 lists the longest figure, and the Panasonic conflict between 45 and 50 minutes means its run time cannot be given as one figure.
Simplicity is the remaining test. The BG3007 has one comb and a short list of features, so it fits a first purchase where the number of attachments is a worry.
Limits of each page
Empty technical specification sections appear on the Philips product pages, so run times and charge times for the two Philips models come from the feature text.
The BG3007 page offers one comb only, and the BG3300 page gives no cleaning steps. The BG5555 page lists no run time and rates the body at IPX4.
For the BG5021, the comb count is inconsistent between the text and the meta description. For the ER-GY10, the run time and the returns wording both conflict.
Details the pages leave blank
Cleaning steps are not written out on the BG5021 and BG3300 pages. Run time is missing for the BG5555, and charging time is missing for the BG3007.
Philips lists four body groomers on its India category page, which are the BG5021/15, the BG5475/15 with Triple Protect, the BG3470/15 with Triple Protect and the BG3007/01. The two Triple Protect models are not compared here. Beardo, Mi and Gillette body groomers are also outside this comparison, which covers Philips, Havells and Panasonic. A buyer who wants one of those brands should read its own product page, as the points above apply only to the models named here.
